On July 15, eight soldiers were martyred during an attack in Bannu, Lt. Gen. Sharif disclosed. He confirmed that all attackers were neutralized by the soldiers defending themselves. Despite efforts to provoke unrest, the army maintained restraint and acted as per protocol.

 

Regarding the subsequent protests, Lt. Gen. Sharif highlighted that while peaceful demonstrations are a right, the situation escalated due to the infiltration of armed elements. He showed footage during the press conference, revealing that some protesters were armed and engaged in criminal activities such as looting and vandalism.

 

The DG ISPR clarified that the military's response focused on protecting lives and restoring order, as stipulated by the SOPs. He reiterated that the army's mandate does not include crowd control, emphasizing that this responsibility lies with the provincial administration.
