Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja on Friday met Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi to convey his party’s concerns, particularly regarding the health of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.
According to sources, the meeting between Salman Akram Raja and the chief justice lasted for over 30 minutes, during which the PTI leader briefed the top judge on issues faced by the party, with a primary focus on Imran Khan’s medical condition.
Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court after the meeting, Salman Akram Raja said he had been present at the court premises since morning and had remained in contact with the chief justice and the attorney general throughout the day.
“Nothing is more important to us than the health of the founder of PTI,” he said, adding that the outcome of the day-long efforts was “not at all satisfactory”.
He said that following sustained engagement, the party had at least succeeded in securing assurances that Imran Khan’s medical reports would be provided to him and his sisters. He added that personal doctors of the PTI founder would also be given access to review the reports.
“We fought a moral case outside the Supreme Court today,” Raja said, adding that the struggle to secure meetings between Imran Khan and his lawyers, family members and friends would continue.
The PTI leader said the party’s political committee would meet later in the day to decide the next course of action. He added that consultations would also be held with leaders of the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan.
According to Salman Akram Raja, Imran Khan had delegated final authority on future decisions to Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. He said the medical report would clarify the condition of the PTI founder’s eyesight, stressing that seeking the report was not their original intention.
Earlier in the day, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Salman Akram Raja arrived at the Supreme Court after they were reportedly denied permission to meet Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.
Salman Akram Raja and senior lawyer Latif Khosa also met the registrar of the Supreme Court and the attorney general during the course of the day.
Speaking to the media, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the situation had reached the point where surgery was being discussed and that doctors from PIMS Hospital had been brought to Adiala Jail without prior information to the family.
“There is no retina specialist at PIMS Hospital,” he said, adding that they would wait at the Supreme Court for further direction from the chief justice.
