UK Pledges $400 Million to Boost Pakistan’s Geological Survey

The United Kingdom has offered $400 million in assistance to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP), as part of efforts to enhance Pakistan’s energy and mineral sectors.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott met with Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik to discuss increased cooperation in the oil, gas, and minerals sectors. During the meeting, both sides agreed that strengthening the Geological Survey of Pakistan would help accelerate the development of the country’s mineral resources.

Ali Pervaiz Malik said steps are underway to enhance institutional capacity in the energy sector. He added that Pakistan and the UK are jointly considering an assessment review for the restructuring of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

High Commissioner Marriott highlighted the immense investment opportunities in Pakistan and invited British companies to participate in offshore oil and gas exploration, as well as to partner with Pakistani government institutions in energy and mineral projects.

The move is part of a broader strategy to boost international cooperation and private investment in Pakistan’s energy and resource sectors, aimed at fostering economic growth and development.
